Gearing up and letting go. Weird.

Tomorrow will be the very first DITCH rehearsal I won’t attend… The show previews on the 29th and opens on 30th and my role as the playwright is becoming less and less needed in the production process.

Don’t get me wrong, I may still be around to change a phrase here and a word there. However, the play is the play at this point. The last round of major changes was submitted over the holidays and as we began 2010 the play, on the most part, is complete.

I’ve enjoyed quietly listening from rehearsal this past week. Jon and the cast are really hitting their strides. There have been moments where I have genuinely felt heart-warmed by their work. Almost, in some moments moved to tears by seeing the life of these roles become flesh and blood. These actors have guts and heart and under Jon’s direction- I am so confident in production.  All four truly shine. It’s genuinely fun to see… and strange.

I imagine this being the closest I have in this lifetime come to raising a child and watching it become an adult you can no longer control.

I truly believe art, on some level, is rarely ever done. It’s the artist who is done… ready for new adventures.
